Faith Sees the Unseen

Key Verses: Hebrews 11:1-2 (ESV)

1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it, the people of old received their commendation

1. Faith is essentially confidence in God; it is commended by God (11:1-2)

2. Faith is exercised in the consideration & choices of God’s people; these all trusted God’s promises in the old covenant:

a. From earth’s creation to the Abrahamic promise (11:3-16)

b. From the Abrahamic promise to its immediate fulfilment (11:17-31)

c. Through the judges, kings & prophets (11:32-38)

3. Faith is expected in our continuing with Christ; He’s the final fulfillment in the new covenant (11:39-40)

Questions for consideration

i. How do I normally handle uncertainties, dislikes & discomforts in life?

ii. How should one who has faith in God respond differently?

Heb 10:1-39 (Sermon)

He Died For Us; We Live For Him

Key Verse: Hebrews 10:14

For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

1. He died for us

a. The death of Christ sanctifies us all from sin (10:1-10)

b. The death of Christ satisfied all that’s required (10:11-18)

2. We live for Him

Let us rekindle our cardinal faith, hope in & love of Christ (10:19-25)

a. Let us recognize the consequence of rejecting Christ (10:26-31)

b. Let us recall how we commenced with Christ (10:32-34)

c. Let us relish our confidence in Christ (10:35-39)

Questions for consideration

i. What is one aspect in which you can grow in greater faith, hope or love?

ii. Recall the time when you were most fervent for the Lord. How has that been different from your Christian walk today?

Heb 8:1-13 (Sermon)

A Reality That’s So Much Better

Key Verse: (8:6)

But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.

1.      This reality is effected by Jesus only (8:1-6)

        (The Perfect & True Mediator)

2.      This reality is in knowing God personally (8:7-13)

        (A Different & Better Ministry)

Heb 5:1-14 (Sermon)

The Source of Eternal Salvation

Basic Message:

With Jesus as our Great High Priest, we must grow out of our immaturity

a.  Compared to Aaron as High Priest, Jesus is far greater (5:1-10)

b.  Unlike the Hebrew Christians, we must not be immature (5:11-14)

Questions for Consideration

i.   “Trust & obey, there’s no other way…” How have I not trusted & obeyed Him?

ii.  What is one habit I will adopt, change or throw so as to grow in greater maturity?

Heb 3:1-19 (Sermon)

A Page from the Past

Basic Message:

With Jesus as a far greater Prophet, we must be more ready to hear His voice

a. Compared to Moses in the past, Jesus is far greater (3:1-6)

b. Unlike the Israelites in the past, we mustn’t harden our hearts (3:7-19)

Questions for consideration

i.   How can I not allow adverse circumstances affect my faith in Christ?

ii.  How can I be more integrated in the community life of the church?

Heb 1:1-2:4 (Sermon)

Greatest Of All Time

a.      The Sonship of Jesus (1:1-4)

b.      The Supremacy of Jesus (1:4-14)

c.      The Severity of neglecting Jesus (2:1-4)

Main Thought:

Never neglect Jesus, the Son of God who is supreme over everything (including angels)

i.   What are things in my life that can cause me to neglect Jesus?

ii.  What does the supremacy of Jesus mean to me in my life?
