Common Sense vs Godly Fear

Israel needs to keep fearing God so as to remain faithful to Him

1. The fear of God led the Gibeonites to make a treaty

– The Canaanite kings converge “as one to fight against Israel” (9:1-2)

– The Gibeonites “acted with cunning” to secure a peace treaty (9:3-13)

2. The fear of God would have led Israel to seek His counsel

– Israel “did not ask counsel from the LORD” & made the treaty (9:14-15)

– Israel became conscious they were deceived & made a blunder (9:16-18)

3. The fear of God led Joshua to keep his word

– Joshua & Israel confronted their mistake boldly & responsibly (9:19-27)

Preparing by Remembering  the Faithful God

As Amazing As Ever

1.  Joshua instructed Israel on the crossing (3:1-13)

2.  The Jordan river stopped flowing & Israel began to cross on dry land  (3:14-17)

3.  Joshua instructed Israel to set up a memorial  (4:1-10)

4.  Israel completed the crossing & the Jordan river flowed again (4:11-18)

5.  Joshua instructed Israel to remember this day  (4:19-24)

Getting & Being Ready

1.  The two spies were sent out secretly (v.1)

2.  Rahab hid the spies from danger (v.2-7)

3.  Rahab made a pact with the spies (v.8-14)

4.  Rahab helped the spies to escape (v.15-21)

5.  The two spies came back safely (v.22-24)
